The 2017 Remodeling 550 will be published in early May, but before we reveal who’s on the list, here’s a look at one issue we explored: What benefits do full-service remodelers and replacement contractors offer?
Our survey didn”t reveal any consistent patterns, except perhaps with regard to the cost of the benefit offered. Among the top 300 full-service companies, their average likelihood of offering a particular benefit trails that of the average for the top 150 replacement firms in areas such as medical, life, and disabiity insurance and in offering retirement plans. That’s not a surprise, given that full-service firms tend to be smaller than home improvement shops.
But full-service firms are even with replacement contractors in areas like vacations and sick days. And compared with all businesses–particularly all private firms–remodelers are head on health insurance but behind on life, dental, and disabiity insurance and on retirement plans. Here’s how they compare on those and other benefits.
Here’s a roundup of those benefits:
And here’s the underlying data. The “business type” column refers to the type of company for which we give comparisons in the “All Businesses” column. The business type “C” refers to civilian employers, a category that includes government employees. A “P” business type refers to private businesses only.
