For the National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Q3 2020 Remodeling Market Index (RMI), the association asked remodelers to report on material shortages to help the NAHB gain a better understanding of how recent surges in softwood lumber prices are impacting remodelers. According to the RMI, over three-quarters of remodelers reported a framing lumber shortage and more than 60% of respondents also reported shortages for windows and doors, plywood, and oriented strand board. The RMI also polled remodelers on how prices have changed in recent months, and 25% of remodelers have experienced cost increases of 20% or more, according to the NAHB’s Eye on Housing blog.
