With nothing more than grass and a small patio in this narrow but elongated backyard in Boise, Idaho, the original layout provided little room for entertaining. Tim Fellin and Yardscapes Northwest designed an outdoor space where the clients can gather with their two children, family, and friends in a functional and comfortable area without feeling cramped, even with up to 30 people. And for approximately $80,000, the completely revamped backyard comes complete with all the modern-day essentials most often requested today by homeowners. All but one, that is: the sink. Listen as Fellin explains.

Mirroring the layout and elevation of the home’s interior, Fellin’s rustic and traditional design features a split stamped concrete patio with three sections that naturally flow from one to the next. The area moves along the length of the home, beginning with a stone outdoor kitchen boasting a stamped concrete countertop, grill, refrigerator and bar seating. Adjacent is a stone seating area and water feature, followed by a stone fire pit kit with locally sourced crushed sandstone as its media. An abundance of natural seating and built-in LED lighting create a warm and welcoming environment. A douglas fir pergola offers the right amount of shade, while handmade metal lattices and ivy along the property’s perimeter provide privacy.
