When I met Brent from Radon PDS at the International Builders’ Show, I was on a personal mission. My radon fan bit the dust and it’s one of those projects that I can clearly do myself.
Except for all the other projects I can clearly do myself and am drowning in. So why not ignore a tasteless, odorless, and deadly gas (I mean Class A carcinogen; it’ll kill you) gather in my family’s lungs? Out of sight, out of mind so to speak. And my local electric supply house doesn’t stock the brand that was installed originally and now I have to launch an investigation or pay a guy.
So that’s why I approached Brent.
The discussion yielded a wealth of knowledge, including that radon fans have a 7-to-8-year lifespan. Radon PDS (PDS stands for Professional Discount Supply) has whatever fan I need.
And, the company can talk me through the best fan to replace the existing fan. And this company answers the phone. I called Brent out of the blue to make sure I had my ducks in a row for this piece and he answered.
So, beyond health and the river of building science we have to consume every day, what I learned seems to be a little bit of good business too—and a way to stay in contact with your customers via social (See other social content ideas here). It’s good tech knowledge the next time you remodel a basement or install a kitchen or a shiplap feature wall. “Hey Mrs. Jones. Have you checked if your radon fan is working? I can replace that for you if it’s kaput.”
If I were posting on social media, I’d say something like:
Got radon? This is no joke. Radon fans have a limited lifespan, usually 7-8 years. More, radon is a tasteless/odorless gas and, according to the EPA, the second—SECOND—leading cause of lung cancer. Number One in non-smokers. Replacing a radon fan is a pretty straightforward, DIY project, usually involving a few rubber couplers, hose clamps, and basic hand tools. Getting the right replacement fan is easy through www.RadonPDS.com. Or, we here at XYZ contracting can take a look and get it taken care of for you. Give us a call or PM us here.
