My work has brought me the joy of meeting many different people in the U.S., Canada, and beyond.
Some of these folks decide that having me consult with them would be a good idea. So, we start talking on a semi-regular basis.
Over time we get to know one another better and better. And I look forward to continued conversations with them, as people working together and as friends.
One of the most remarkable people that this happened with was Leslie King, the founder of Greymark Construction, located in Houston, Texas.
Combining a caring nature with the inability to tolerate anything but the truth, Leslie was always full of energy and new ideas. Our conversations were wide-ranging and inspiring.
Leslie and I had our first call in April of 2011. We had our last call in June of 2019. On that call, Leslie told me that was to be our last call, as the attempts to stop her illness were not working. Her hope was to live long enough to see her first grandchild, due in a couple months by her daughter, Kelly.
In the meantime, Leslie, being the strong person she was, continued to participate in her business, working with Kelly on the transition. Leslie, as always, focused on the future, even if it was not likely to include her.
Leslie King passed on August 29, 2019. She lived a life that was remarkable in so many ways. I am grateful that I had the time with her that I did.
Treasure your time with those who are in your life, whatever the source of your relationship is with them. You never know how long you have with any of these folks. Make the most of the time you do have.
We “are” who we choose to spend time with, whether in person or electronically. I am a better person because of the time I spent with Leslie.
Who is making a difference in your life? Let them know they are while you have the chance. Leslie did that for me.
