Pompano Beach, Fla.-based roofing contractor Action Roofing Services faces $51,952 in OSHA penalties for allegedly exposing employees to fall hazards at a Boca Raton worksite. OSHA initiated the inspection as part of its Regional Emphasis Program for Falls in Construction.

Action Roofing Services was fined for allowing employees to engage in roofing activities without a conventional fall protection system, according to a news release. The citation is the roofing company’s third such OSHA citation in the past three years. In December 2019, OSHA fined the company $146,280 for failing to provide fall protection to employees installing roofing tile at two job sites and for improperly using the upper section of an extension ladder to gain access to a roof. Action Roofing Services was also cited for failing to train workers on how to recognize and prevent fall hazards on the job.

“Employers must take necessary steps to identify and eliminate workplace hazards. Failure to do so places their employees at severe risk for injuries and fatalities,” OSHA Fort Lauderdale, Fla., acting area director Beatriz Cabrera said in a prepared statement. “Employers can reach out to OSHA for compliance assistance to ensure their worksite are free from recognized hazards.”

Action Roofing Services has 15 business days from receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference with their OSHA area director, or contest the findings.
