Don’t Just Do Something. Stand There.

1 MIN READ

Don’t look now, but we’re becoming a chair-shaped species. Even if you run a construction or remodeling firm, are a project manager, or lead carpenter, you’ve got time in your day hunched over a screen managing things, you’re in your truck driving, or you’re sitting down at 6:30 at night at a client’s kitchen table to talk to them about the new deck they want.

Either way, you’re in hunch-ville.

Autonomous.ai has what appears to be an intolerably vague website but a really, really cool-looking product once you launch an investigation to figure out the nuances of it. And models seem to be around a reasonable $300 (with or without tops; read on).

Basically, it’s a sit-to-stand motorized desk frame called SmartDesk. The SmartDesk Business Edition has a lift speed of 2.3 inches per second and a lifting capacity of 300 pounds. That’s a lot of laptops and sticky notes.

The motor is nicely hidden and the legs look strong and sleek, but the desktops are only OK.

What really caught my eye are the Autonomous frames…

…onto which you can apply your own woodwork and save some bucks.

So stand up. Make a top.

The company also has chairs that are a cozy $300-ish too.

Here are some more specs on the dess:

  • Lifting motors: Dual motor system
  • Lifting speed: 2.3 in/ second
  • Lifting capacity: 300 lb.
  • Dimensions: 50”x30” / 70″x30″
  • Height range: 24-51”
  • Warranty: 5 years
  • Desktop color choices: Black / White / Walnut / Bamboo / White oak
