So, this app—which I read about here—determines the “stiffness of wood” using soundwaves and the phone’s mic.
While I think this is cool, I’m not sure why anybody would ever use it.
Woodworking Network says, “Developer Dan Seale, professor in MSU’s Department of Sustainable Bioproducts, said it will help carpenters, contractors, architects, engineers, lumber mill personnel, and consumers. He pointed out that it can be particularly beneficial for the do-it-yourself market.”
I understand that you want header stock and studs to be straight. But stiff? Maybe in a bathroom or kitchen wall (by the way, I have a five-minute presentation on using LSL studs for those walls instead of 2-by that I like to give. Nobody likes to hear it, but I give it).
You can download the app here or watch it in action in this video.
