Blocking for Crown Molding

As Chicago carpenter Marlon Rodriguez explains in this short Instagram video, sometimes there’s nothing to nail crown molding to. So Rodriguez cuts a bunch of triangular backer blocks sized to fit the upper and lower spring angles of the crown, then fastens the blocks to the top plates with long screws. It’s an easy solution to a vexing problem that will save a lot of time.
