Writing in JLC’s sister publication, Tools of the Trade, Pete Bruckler (a.k.a. @WillowCarpentry) reviews the latest sliding compound miter saw (SCMS) to come from Metabo HPT (the sawmaker formerly known as Hitachi). Pete is a finish carpenter specializing in built-ins and custom cabinetry, and precision is his primary requirement from a new miter saw – a demand that comes through loud and clear in his critique of this dual-platform saw, which can run plugged in or on a 36-volt battery. The new Metabo HPT has power in spades, whether running corded or cordless, and while it’s possible to make precision cuts that pass muster with Pete, it apparently takes a little finesse.
