Marble-Rich Shower Lets Daylight In

The master bathroom of this extensively renovated Georgia farmhouse faces a private garden, offering the prospect—and the challenge—of bringing daylight and views into the shower. Terry Pylant, design project manager for the Peachtree City, Ga.-based architecture firm Historical Concepts, specified awning windows low enough to permit sightlines but high enough to protect bathers’ privacy. Seven feet by four feet in plan, the space includes a standard shower head on its end wall, a rainshower head above, and a separate handheld shower wand. Marble lines the walls, the floor, and the ceiling, lending an all-of-a-piece effect that’s balanced by contrasting tile patterns. Builder Bruce Jones of Woodruff Development, in Columbus, Ga., capped off the composition with window trim—casing, jambs, and sills—all in marble.
