The number of workplace fatalities has fallen from previous decades, however. In 2014 the total work fatalities was 4,821. Ten years ago that number was 5,764 and two decades ago it was as high as 6,632. The likelihood of dying from a work-related injury was low in 2014: 3.4 fatal injuries per 100,000 full-time workers.
