Tom Mitchell, president and owner of Mitchell Construction Group in Medfield, Mass., has won the 2016 Remodelers Advantage IMPACT Award.
The award, presented last September at the Awards Gala during the 2016 Remodeling Summit, recognizes an individual who embodies, in spirit and practice, the selfless leadership and unwavering commitment that has made Remodelers Advantage Roundtables what it is today: the largest, most successful peer group in the industry. I’m shown with Mitchell in the photo below.
Mitchell was among four finalists honored during the event, which was held in Kansas City, Mo. The other finalists were Ty Melton, Melton Design Build, Boulder, Colo.; Jeremy Martin, RisherMartin Fine Homes, Austin, Texas; and Jeff Forward, Forward Design Build Remodel, Ann Arbor, Mich.
Lighting a Fire
“When I came to Remodelers Advantage, I knew how to build, but I needed help building a business,” Mitchell said in a video recorded for the awards gala. “There were a lot of honest, caring people who helped me out—sometimes brutally honest. There was one person in particular who, when I passed out my financials, said he knew just what I should do with them: Start a fire. And he asked me if I had a match. At that time, it wasn’t very funny; I can laugh at it now.”
“And there have been other people, over the last 12 years, who have given me advice, and I remember it like it was yesterday,” Mitchell continued. “To me, that’s what it means to have an impact—it means to leave a lasting impression. They were generous with their knowledge and their time. They inspired me to not only be able to run my business, but to believe in myself and trust myself and be able to leave my own lasting impression. They not only lit a fire under me; they lit a fire within me. And I’m grateful now for that opportunity to pass that message on to the next generation.”
We’ll announce this year’s IMPACT Award winner in Minneapolis on Sept. 27 during the Remodeling Summit’s Awards Gala.
