OSHA has cited Melbourne, Fla., roofing contractor Turnkey Construction Planners for repeatedly exposing employees to fall hazards, according to a news release. The contractor faces $199,184 in penalties.

Inspections of the contractor began as part of OSHA’s Regional Emphasis Program on Falls in Construction. Department of Labor inspectors then observed Turnkey Construction Planners employees working without the use of fall protection at two separate worksites.

The roofer has been cited four times in the past five years for similar violations. Turnkey Construction Planners was fined $13,943 in April 2017 and $35,491 last November for workplace safety violations.

“Repeatedly exposing employees to fall hazards that can lead to serious injuries or fatalities is inexcusable,” OSHA Fort Lauderdale office director Condell Eastmond said in the news release. “Employers have an obligation to identify and eliminate known hazards that place their employees in harm’s way.”

The roofer has 15 days from the receipt of their citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference, or contest the findings.
