OSHA has cited Florida Roofing Experts for exposing employees to fall hazards at a Jacksonville, Fla., worksite, according to a news release from the agency. The roofer faces the maximum allowable penalty of $132,598 for the violations.

An inspection of the worksite, initiated as part of OSHA’s Regional Emphasis Program on Falls in Construction, found employees performing roofing activities without fall protection. The roofer was cited for failing to provide fall protection for employees working at heights up to 13 feet.

“Implementing OSHA’s safety standards can help protect employees from risk of serious or fatal injuries,” said OSHA Jacksonville area director Michelle Gonzalez. “Employers have an obligation to provide personal protective equipment for their workers to prevent from falls from height.”

Florida Roofing Experts has 15 days from receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference with their OSHA area director, or contest the findings.

Roofing contractor Travis Slaughter, doing business as Florida Roofing Experts, was recently cited by OSHA in November 2018 for exposing employees to fall hazards at a St. Augustine, Fla., worksite. The November citation included $129,336 in proposed penalties for exposing five employees to fall hazards and failing to use any personal fall protection system.
