OSHA has cited Navy Contractors for exposing employees to fall hazards at a work site in Lakewood, N.J., according to a news release from the agency. The framing contracting company faces $84,183 in penalties for repeat and serious safety violations.
The agency conducted an investigation after an inspector observed Navy Contractors’ employees performing roofing activities without fall protection. OSHA issued citations for failing to provide fall protection, for failing to ensure employees wore hardhats, for failing to train employees on ladder safety, and for failing to prevent the use of damaged ladders.
OSHA previously cited Navy Contractors for similar violations in 2018 at sites in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The agency fined Navy Contractors $603,850 in April for willfully exposing employees to fall hazards at three residential construction sites in Pennsylvania in 2018. The company faces $603,850 in proposed penalties from the alleged violations at the Pennsylvania work sites.
“Failure to comply with OSHA fall protection requirements jeopardizes the safety of workers,” said OSHA Marlton, N.J., area director Paula Dixon-Roderick. “Fall hazards are well known, but they can be eliminated when workers are trained and protective equipment is used properly.”
Navy Contractors has 15 business days from receipt of the citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference with their OSHA area director, or contest the findings.
