OSHA has cited two Florida roofing companies for exposing employees to struck-by and fall hazards at a Greenacres, Fla., jobsite. The two companies, Dover, Fla.-based Cruz Enterprises & Construction and Tampa, Fla.-based Intex Builders, face a combined $83,348 in proposed penalties, according to an OSHA news release.

OSHA cited the two companies for willfully allowing employees to perform roofing activities without conventional fall protection. OSHA also cited Intex Builders for allowing employees to operate an industrial truck without being trained or certified and exposing employees to struck-by hazards.

“Assuring a safe workplace is the law,” said OSHA Fort Lauderdale, Fla., area director Condell Eastmond. “Employers are legally obligated to comply with safety standards to ensure that workers are protected from hazards that can cause serious injuries.”

Both companies have 15 days from the receipt of citations and proposed penalties to comply, request an informal conference with their OSHA area director, or contest the findings.
