Congress has passed a bill that limits the amount of sulfur permissible in wallboard products, and directs the Administration to pressure Chinese manufacturers to compensate victims of faulty Chinese-made material.
Congress marked the New Year by passing the Drywall Safety Act and sending it to the President for his signature. The measure sets a new limit on sulfur, reports the Sun-Sentinel (“Bill passes to ban further use of tainted Chinese drywall,” by William E. Gibson). “A bill sponsored by South Florida Congressman Ted Deutch essentially bans high-sulfur building products and also raised hopes that homeowners will be able to bring Chinese manufacturers to court to recover the cost of replacing dangerous drywall,” the paper says.
