Two workers were trapped when the deck on a house undergoing alterations in Amityville, N.Y. collapsed. One was seriously hurt. The pair was working on a house that had been damaged by Superstorm Sandy in 2012 when the attached deck broke free and fell to the ground. A neighbor heard the cries for help and called authorities, then helped the first-responders lift the deck so the two contractors could be freed.

One of the workers suffered serious injuries. Neither was identified by police. Officials said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been notified.
