Slideshow: Brooklyn Passive House Mechanicals

With an air-tight building enclosure, plenty of insulation, and advanced triple-glazed windows, the rehabbed Brooklyn brownstone will need only minimal heating and cooling, supplied by a ducted mini-split air-source heat pump. But a controlled supply of fresh air is a must, supplied by a highly efficient energy recovery ventilator. Here’s an early look at the rough-in for the heat pump and ERV, showing four-inch white corrugated tubing for the ERV and mastic-sealed 5-inch and 6-inch galvanized ductwork for the heating and cooling system.
