The Case for an All-Electric House

Allison Bailes, in his eminently readable Energy Vanguard blog, provides an insightful look at why he believes electricity is the most appealing energy for homes. As he writes:

There are a number of reasons for doing so. Combustion safety is a big one. Your water heater will never kill you with carbon monoxide poisoning in your sleep if it’s running on electricity. And your heat pump won’t depressurize your house and suck in toxic air from the garage because it has no need for combustion air.

But there’s an even more important reason to choose electricity that Allison points to that may surprise you, especially if you have been led to believe that “electric cars or heat pumps or water heaters don’t help because they use dirty coal.” Allison provides an important analysis that we all need to understand.
