The nature of the Kerdi membrane allows you to install small pieces such as this one to extend the membrane on the floor out beyond the drain. Again the keys are completely bedding the membrane in thinset mortar, and going over the membrane with a stiff-edge trowel or taping knife to squeeze out the excess mortar.
