Enhance projects by finishing windows and doors with drywall and decorative corner bead. Wood and aluminum interior trim have long been the standard. Simple drywall returns—though affordable— typically lack the character most clients want.
Until now.
With some creativity, minimal time, and durable materials that cost less than traditional trim, this technique offers signature customizability that achieves a premium look. Boost the skillset of drywall crews and increase profit margins by transforming drywall scraps into interior finish masterpieces.
Begin by installing a layer of drywall around the window or door. Be sure to install the drywall with the required setback at outside corners for the corner bead. Once the beads are cut to length, spray the drywall and the underside of the corner bead’s mud legs with 847 Spray Adhesive. Firmly press the bead into place and staple it off every 6-8 inches. Finish as usual with drywall compound, sand smooth, and add a high-quality paint.
Customize The Job
To change the look, select any of the variety of Trim-Tex decorative corner beads. Step A Bull is a popular choice to finish around window trim, but there is no need to stop there. Chamfer Bead, Bullnose, Niche Bead and assorted styles of Decorative L Bead can be mixed and matched to create a truly custom finish.
The example pictured uses Step A Bull L Bead to finish the outside edge of the trim, 350 Step A Bull finishes the 90-degree outside corner and Tear Away L Bead finishes the drywall return where the edge butts up to the window.
When your project doesn’t need the “wow” factor you can be more efficient without sacrificing detail.
Introducing, Oversized L Bead, available in standard, Super and Giant sizes with archway capabilities. Slip the Oversized L Bead over the window return and mud into place. The surface of the Oversized L Bead is ready to be primed and painted.
Finishing around windows with drywall and corner bead brings endless customization possibilities to high-end finishes, all at an affordable price. Give it a try on your next project.
