Paul Manafort, who was charged with a 12-count indictment for money laundering on Oct. 30., used more than $10 million of those funds to remodel his three homes.
According to special prosecutor Robert Mueller’s indictment, Manafort allegedly failed to disclose more than $18 million he made consulting a pro-Russia political party in Ukraine–instead using the cash to fund a lavish lifestyle for his family in America.
The ex-chairman of Trump’s presidential campaign was being investigated as part of the probe into possible Russian influence on the U.S. presidential Election.
Where did the money go?
According to Mueller’s report, a large chunk went to remodeling his homes in Florida, Virginia, New York. From 2008 to 2014, Manafort poured nearly $10 million into landscaping, remodeling, and designing his three homes.
More than $6 million went to various contractors and landscapers to his house in the Hamptons, and over $1 million apiece went to the homes in Virginia and Florida.
Some of his most lavish purchases included $934,350 at an antique rug store in Alexandria, Va., and $1.3 million to a home entertainment company in Florida.
Manafort also spent money buying luxury cars, clothing, and artwork. The full indictment can be viewed here.
