Stainless Cable & Railing offers engineered 4×4 and 6×6 posts made from Batu mahogany (also known as Membatu, Selangan Batu, or Red Balau). The company says the posts are manufactured using a unique process that makes the naturally strong wood nearly impervious to checking, splitting, shrinking, warping, and checking. An undrilled Batu post lists for about $53. Matching engineered Batu rails in 2×4, 5/4×4 and 5/4×6 sizes are also available.

The Vancouver, Washington-based company also offers Quattro western red cedar posts, which are laminated to resist checking and splitting. The posts have a hollow core to make it easier to run wires through them. Designed for cable railing applications and available in both 4×4 and 6×6 sizes, they can be used as either intermediate or terminal posts. The cost of an undrilled 4×4 Quattro post is about $48.
