FastenMaster will start offering flathead versions of its popular LedgerLok structural screws, starting in January 2019. Tim Irwin, a project manager for new product development at the company, showed me samples of the new fastener at the Deck Expo in the fall and explained that the flathead design, which features an internal Torx ttap drive system, will allow deck builders to install ledgers without worrying about if the fasteners will interfere with joist layout. Irwin says that design values and code compliance are consistent with traditional LedgerLoks; pricing has not yet been announced. www.fastenmaster.com.
