Moment Post Base

Pergolas, tall freestanding decks, and other outdoor structures typically need lots of bracing to prevent lateral forces at the top of the structure from rotating the support posts around their bases. But now, Simpson Strong-Tie is offering a code-listed (ICC-ES ES-3050) post base specifically designed to provide moment resistance as well as uplift, download, and lateral resistance for columns or posts. The MPBZ features an overlapping sleeve design that encapsulates the post, helping to resist rotation around its base, and is available in sizes to fit 4×4, 6×6, and 8×8 posts. The post base has internal top-of-concrete tabs for ensuring that it is embedded at the proper depth when cast into concrete, and has built-in standoff tabs that provide the required 1-inch standoff to resist decay of the post.
