Simpson Strong-Tie Updates Its Hardware Catalog

The 2019 version of Simpson Strong-Tie's Wood Construction Connectors catalog includes updated load tables to meet 2018 IRC requirements.

Every couple of years, Simpson Strong-Tie updates its Wood Construction Connectors catalog, both to include the company’s new hardware offerings and to reflect changes in the building codes or testing protocols. In the 2015 and 2018 IRC, for example, manufacturers were required to test joist hangers and similar products to a new standard, ASTM D7147. As a result, the company says it has re-evaluated all of its related wood connectors to meet the new test standard, resulting in updated tables for allowable loads of connectors used for wood-to-wood, wood-to-concrete, wood-to-masonry, and wood-to-steel connections in the 2019-2020 version of its Wood Construction Connectors catalog. According to the company, allowable loads that changed more than 5%—up or down—are indicated in red in the product load tables. All Simpson Strong-Tie connector IBC code reports have now been updated to the 2015 IBC, and 85% of those connector reports have been updated to the 2018 IBC.
