Ask Yourself These 7 Questions if You Hope to Succeed in Remodeling

Know where you want to go before you start your journey

2 MIN READ

What do you want from life? In my work with remodeling company owners, I find that many don’t have an answer.

Life is a journey, not a destination, I agree. But what kind of journey do you want to be on and where would you like to end up? Those who ask these questions of themselves get closer to their goals than those who don’t have any goals.

When I begin consulting relationships with remodelers, I often send a letter requesting they answer these questions about their personal life and what they’d like their relationship with their business to be in (you pick the year):

  • What do I want to be doing besides working in my business?
  • What do I want my business to pay me in salary and benefits (so I can do some of the things besides running the business that I want to do)?
  • How much net profit do I want my business to generate annually, and over the years?
  • What do I want to be doing in my business?
  • What don’t I want to be doing in my business?
  • How many hours a week am I willing to work in my business?
  • How many weeks a year do I want to not be working in my business?

“Answer these questions and plan your business growth and changes to support the answers,” I tell them.
If you don’t stop and think about the answers now, your life will happen and then be over. Okay.

If you take the time to address these questions now, you can change the rest of your life, no matter how many years you have already been on the planet.

As the great show band, The Tubes, put it in the last century, “What Do You Want From Life?” Ask yourself that question before it is too late to do anything about it.
