Multigenerational households need a layout that balances privacy with togetherness. This unique house plan with an in-law suite does just that with a variety of thoughtful features.

First: plenty of parking. The split garage gives a two-car section to each part of the home—one leading into the main floor plan and the other serving the in-law unit. This split arrangement, with one section facing out and the other to the side, also prevents the garage from overwhelming the graceful curb appeal.

A private entrance leads into the in-law suite (or for-rent unit, depending on what’s allowed locally). Here, a simple and open living area provides independence to a live-in relative or tenant. Space for laundry machines in the walk-in closet is a nice touch.

In the main living areas of the home, it’s all about togetherness with the vaulted great room leading out to the grilling porch. Three bedrooms sit on one side of the home, while the primary suite enjoys a vaulted ceiling and five-piece bathroom on the other.
