JH: Callback cost reductions and pride in their profession are the two immediate benefits.
RC: Vinyl is estimated to have a 45% to 50% share of the U.S. siding market. Do you see vinyl sustaining that share?
JH: I think it will. If consumers are presented with information about the pros and cons of various siding materials — and there is increasing recognition that vinyl is easily maintained — vinyl will continue to predominate.
RC: How have vinyl siding products improved in the past five years?
JH: We’re seeing vinyl in the newer, darker colors with architectural touches and accessories. It’s also being used more on upscale houses, and we’re seeing a variety of warranties.
RC: What is the biggest challenge your member manufacturers face during the next five years?
JH: Costs of raw materials and transportation.
RC: And the biggest challenge facing contractors who install vinyl siding? JH: Building a strong, quality-minded labor force.
