Though it looked like the Senate “probably” wouldn’t vote on the House legislation that limits flood insurance premiums this week, Nola.com’s Bruce Alpert reported that Sens. Mary Landrieu, D-La., and David Vitter, R-La., have possibly turned the tide in favor of an earlier vote.
On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., requested that the House bill be expedited, but Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, stalled the process by objecting, citing desire for a vote on his own flood insurance bill. After spending the day Wednesday persuading Lee to change his mind, however, both Landrieu and Vitter say they expect he’ll have a change of heart, and the vote should soon follow.
“I’m confident we’ve cleared the way for a vote—and likely passage of the flood insurance permanent fix bill today or tomorrow,” Vitter said.
