Though it will warm your house in the winter, south light can cause overheating and is unforgiving when it comes to most building materials

Know the cost of having a home that loves the sun. This classic 1970s solar house achieved its goal of getting south light into the home’s interior, but at the cost of degraded siding and entry doors that baked in the sun. In the remodel, a full porch creates shade for the previously exposed entry, and the industrial-strength glazing was replaced by standard, more human-scale windows.
