Better Push Pads and Hockey Pucks

A high-friction rubber film and hockey pucks help you work more safely.

If the push blocks you own don’t have the greatest grip (or they’ve worn out), Jesse de Geest has a good tip that’s inexpensive. He replaces the foam pad with high-friction rubber that he gets from Lee Valley (if you scroll to the bottom of the page in the link, you’ll see the sheets are sold in 12”x36” and 24”x36” sizes). His “bonus tip,” which is sort of obvious given the items offered on Lee Valley’s site, is to add this foam to inexpensive hockey pucks to create work standoffs with equal gripping power.
