Last week at the Remodeling Show event that we co-sponsored with our sister publications JLC and Professional Deck Builder, we got an opportunity to get a sneak-peek at a new saw from Hitachi Power Tools (now known as Metabo HPT). The tool was provided to Kiefer Limeback (@toolaholic) as part of a demonstration that he did, which was sponsored by Hitachi/Metabo HPT (the demonstration, which will be available via our YouTube channel soon, was about choosing the right finish nail gauge for the job you’re doing). The new 10-inch dual-bevel sliding compound miter saw is a cordless option that runs off of Hitachi/Metabo HPT new MultiVolt battery platform. The 36V battery also runs 18V tools, much like its competitor’s FlexVolt system.
I don’t have any official specs on the saw, but I can tell you that it’s largely modeled after model C10FSHC, which I reviewed during the “Who Makes the Best Miter Saw?” review. While I found that version lacking in a few areas, this model does appear to have some upgrades. The Hitachi rep that I spoke with said that the company has made several improvements on the design, including a larger table as well as some changes that are said to have made the head stiffer. Even with upgrades, I’m doubtful that the saw will compare in accuracy to the company’s C10FSHPS, but we’ll have to wait until I can get it in the shop for testing to see what its tolerances and capabilities are.
Both Kiefer and I did use the saw a bit at the show and noted that it cut effortlessly through 2-by material and some larger composite trim we were using. What’s most notable off the bat, though, is the fact that the saw will come with a power pack so it can be used as a corded tool. This is a huge deal for a lot of users who want the convenience of cordless tool, but the backup of a cord should the battery run out.

Pricing and availability are still TBD.
