A sports trainer at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., found a non-traditional use for jigsaws and car buffers.

Bill DeLongis is the head strength and conditioning coach at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. He uses power tools to warm up and massage tight muscles on the athletes in the college’s sports program. It might seem kind of nuts – and is most certainly frowned upon by power tool companies – but the tools he’s using are showing results. The “Jigssage” is a much less expensive alternative than the TheraGun – which is essentially a cordless jigsaw anyway, only with a $650 price tag. Granted, the TheraGun is specifically designed for the purpose of massage; DeLongis’s modification comprises a filed-down blade embedded into what looks like a lacrosse ball (solid rubber) and secured with epoxy. He uses a cordless car buffer to massage muscles as well. You have to give DeLongis credit for his ingenuity.
