Hilti PS 1000 X-Scan Ground Penetrating Radar System

This tool is not for everyone, but it may be just the thing for the contractor who can’t afford to hit something vital while cutting or drilling concrete.

The PS 1000 X-Scan uses ground penetrating radar to detect what’s inside concrete walls and slabs-so you can avoid hitting rebar, conduit, or post-tensioning wire while drilling, cutting, or coring holes. It is available in multiple configurations and kits with prices starting at $18k. That’s not a typo; the tool is that expensive. The average contractor is never going to buy one of these things, but commercial and industrial contractors might, because for them, $18k could be significantly less than the cost of an injury, delay, or damage to a concrete structure.
