What’s a Molly?

1 MIN READ

Unless you’re building a suspension bridge or logging your own 2-by stock, there’s probably little of practical use for the residential jobsite in this particular video, as Essential Craftsman Scott Wadsworth goes wonderfully inside baseball on using cable and shackles and crafting a Molly from discarded wire rope.

On the other hand, I might want to take that back. Scott mentions a foreman he worked for years ago, the perfectly named Jack Frost, and says without hesitation in his presentation what a good guy Jack was. I’ve seen this before from Scott as he digs just a little deeper into the humanity of our work and I enjoy it every time.

What struck me is the goodness Scott brings up so often. While I’ve met a ton of good guys in this industry, I’ve met some real lead heads too. We all have.

I guess the point—as we permanently talk about youth and trades—is to intentionally try to be someone whom a young person looks to and says, what a great guy. I don’t know Scott personally, but I find it impossible to believe there isn’t a small army of carpenters who worked with him and say, Yeah Scott … what a great guy.
