When I did a podcast years ago and we somehow worked our way behind the scenes of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, we got to see the show carpenters’ “shop.” Let’s just say it was moment-of-silence awesome.

First, they brought it in an 18-wheeler. Even though the tools were delivered by big rig, most of it was mobile and reconfigured for each site because the show was set up in backyards and side streets.

A quick aside: That show’s production set took acres of land. It was every bit on the scale of a major motion picture set if you’ve ever seen one, only they did it every couple of weeks.

Back to the point: These guys wasted no time. Zero. And one of the cool things they had was what I describe as a giant folding plywood toolbox on wheels. It opened like a book and inside were hundreds of tools. They knew where everything went and whether something was missing at the end of the job. It was great. You pretty much needed a forklift to move it, but still, it’s the idea.

And that’s the same idea with DiamondLife’s rolling tool cart. While I can see its impracticality for tons of jobsites, I can see its total practicality for others. At the official price of “not cheap,” I get it. But I can also see it paying dividends on Minute 1. No wasted time looking for things adds up fast.

I would sling some plywood shelves between the bottom and top for chargers or fasteners.

The 6-by-2-foot unit is on “special” at $490. And the larger, 6-by-4-foot unit is $690.

By the way, this place also sells diamond plate in sheets any size you need up to 4×10 sheets, and I think that’s cool too.
