Building a Pole Barn

Updated materials preserve the economy and speed of this traditional building method

I have always avoided the construction of pole buildings, thinking they were better left to specialty companies. But when one of my regular customers asked me to build a combination barn/garage on poles, I decided it was time to become better educated on the subject. The first thing I discovered is that pole building now goes by the name “post-frame construction.” I also learned that this building technique has adapted to the advent of new materials and methods, some of which I modified to fit the needs of the project.
