Use production techniques to keep fancy finish work within a reasonable budget

Fine interior finish work is one thing that separates high-end work from average work. As a carpentry foreman for a custom homebuilding company, I spend most of my time supervising finish carpenters. We work on expensive custom homes, so we’ve done every sort of carpentry detail imaginable. If it has a dome, a vault, an eyebrow, or a bow, we’ve done it. But no matter how complicated or expensive the house, we still spend most of our time hanging doors and installing trim. Because most finish work is so standard, we try to approach it systematically.
