Finishing the Mud Base
Once the drain was installed and level, I could complete the rest of the mud base. I continued to add the dry mix, packing it down with the wooden float and screeding it with a long level. I worked with levels in both directions to screed the mud perfectly flat and to ensure that there were no voids or low spots in the base.
When all was said and done, I scraped the small amount of leftover mortar onto the bathroom floor and discarded it. The completed mortar bed now needed to cure for at least 24 hours before we could install the heat membrane and the waterproofing membrane.
