Reader Panel: How is RRP Affecting Your Business?

19 MIN READ

14. What is the single most significant reason your business hasn’t become certified yet?

RRP-related cost concerns reveal themselves again among uncertified contractors, with 43% of remodelers saying they can’t afford the fees to become certified. While no respondents said they are already operating illegally or don’t expect to be caught in non-compliance, an interesting range of “Other” responses were listed, including:

  • I only use subcontractors, so I don’t need to comply.
  • I have stopped working on homes in the affected age range.
  • I have stopped taking on jobs with lead paint removal in the scope of work.
  • I’m not sure the costs will be offset by sufficient related revenue.
  • I believe the rule will change.
  • I’m waiting to see if our business survives the down market.
