Reader Panel: How is RRP Affecting Your Business?

19 MIN READ

7. Have you read the RRP Rule in its entirety?

A breadth of legalese and government-speak hasn’t stopped more than half of remodelers (56%) from reading the RRP rule from front to back. Another 12% plan to read the rule in its entirety, while only 6% say they certainly won’t.

Those who don’t could be missing out on some important fine print. “Without reading the rule or attending additional education to help them understand the rule and its depth, remodelers are assuming that they only need to be concerned with how they do the work,” McCadden says. “The business responsibilities are numerous. Not being aware of them or ignoring them can result in fines, including willful violation, which can carry an additional $37,500 fine over and above any other violations, or even prison time.”

Contractors that read the rule in full will learn about the required lead-safe work practices, as well as details on homeowner notification and education; RRP documentation and recordkeeping; training documentation of non-certified employees, subcontractors, and temporary staff; and supervision requirements for those non-certified workers.
